Human Rights Commission to probe Ashwin Willemse racism claims
Updated | By Thabo Tshabalala
The South Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has confirmed it
will launch an inquiry into the allegations of racism raised by Ashwin Willemse in his
dispute with SuperSport.
The former Springbok winger walked out of a live broadcast in May, accusing fellow analysts Nick Mallet and Naas Botha of undermining him.
An investigation found the claims of racism by Willemse to be unsubstantiated, and the matter was referred to the Human Rights Commission.
The commission’s Gauteng provincial manager Buang Jones says following the assessment of the inquiry it has taken the decision to hold an investigative inquiry into allegations of racism.
“Following careful assessment of the report by Advocate (Vincent) Maleka and preliminary meetings with both SuperSport and Willemse, the commission has determined that it will hold an investigative inquiry into the allegations of racism,” says Jones.
The inquiry is set to begin in October.
