Hundreds of drunken drivers arrested in Joburg over festive season

A total of 207 motorists were arrested for drunken driving in Johannesburg during the festive season period between 16 December and 31 December. 

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar said from 16 to 19 December 100 motorists were arrested, while from 24 to 26 December 83 arrests were made and on 31 December 24 arrests were made on drunk motorists. 

"All the drunken drivers were first screened with breathalazers,  then they were taken for blood samples.  Thereafter they were detained at various police stations, and they were given bail of R1200 to R2000 per person. They will appear in court again when the blood results are available." said Minnaar.
