The Gauteng Social Development Department rescued the group who were left locked outside a Wonderpark residence.

The deparment's Mbangwa Xaba says the alleged suspect is a former employee of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

"Adults have been taken to a place in Wonder Park under the false pretences of employment," says Xaba.

Xaba says the suspect is being questioned by the Hawks.

"It is alleged that he has been collecting amounts of money, between R200 and R300, depending on a rank he will put people in," says Xaba.

Xaba says the man could face charges of human trafficking.

"As a department we would have classified it as human trafficking, becuase it has three critical elements of human trafficking: pretence of work ceation; relocating people from the place where they stay to another; scamming people for money," says Xaba.
