The president answered a question by Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Maimane said he is in possession of a sworn affidavit from Beet Venter, that a transfer of R500 000 was made to Andile Ramaphosa at the request of the Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson.

"Mr President, we can't have family members benefiting. I would like to ask you today, bring our nation into confidence and set this matter straight, Mr President," said Maimane.

Ramaphosa said while he is aware of the information, he has been told that the money was paid to Andile for consultation fees.

"This matter was brought to my attention some time ago, and I proceeded to ask my son what it was all about.

"He runs  a financial consultant business.

"He consults for a number of companies, and one of those companies is Bosasa where he provides services on entrepreneurship. Particular on the procurement process and he advises both local and international.

" I can assure you that when I asked him on close range whether this was money that was obtained illegally unlawfully, and he says this is a service that was provided, and to this end, he even showed me a contracts that he signed with Bosasa and the contract also deals with issues of integrity and anti corruption," said Ramaphosa.

The president also assured MPs that should his son be implicated in any wrongdoing, he would face the full might of the law.

"If it turns out that there is any illegality and corruption in the way that he has dealt with this matter I will be the first, absolutely first, to make sure the he becomes accountable. Even if it means I am the one who takes him to the police station."
