Oscar Pistorius will make his bid for freedom before the parole board at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane.

The hearing will decide whether Pistorius is eligible for release on parole after serving half of his 15-year sentence.

The disgraced athlete was convicted of murder after he shot and killed Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius admitted to shooting Steenkamp through a toilet door, but told the court it was a case of mistaken identity.

Pistorius claimed he thought she was an intruder.

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says parole hearings are in line with the Correctional Services Act, Criminal Procedure act and the victims charter.

“Parole hearings are a platform where a victim or victims of crime may make representations either in writing, in person or through audio visual communication the same courtesy has to be afforded to inmates.”
