Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The South African Weather Service says the Eastern Cape and Lesotho could expect the first winter snowfall on Friday.

The snow will be accompanied by freezing temperatures over the weekend.
"We are expecting snowfall over the high-lying areas of the Drakensberg mountains, more over Lesotho, eastern parts of the Eastern Cape Province," said forecaster Dipuo Tawana.
"We are also expecting isolated thundershowers in Eastern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo.
"For the weekend we expect partly cloudy conditions over most parts of the country, (And) we are expecting light rain in KZN."
Tawana says a cold front is expected to hit the country from the southwestern parts.
"In most parts of the country, we are expecting cool conditions, but in the south and central we expect temperatures to be cold, just 17 degrees and below. On Sunday the temperatures are still expected to be cold over the southern part of the country."
