The Independent Education Board (IEB) matriculants have achieved a better pass rate than those in 2017 - at 98.92%, this is an improvement from the 98.76% pass rate the previous year.

The IEB results were released on Wednesday, with pupils receiving their results at their different designated schools around the country.
Umalusi monitored all aspects of the 2018 IEB examination process and declared the results to be fair and valid.
90.65% of pupils received entry to study a degree and according to the IEB this is an improvement compared to the 88,50% recorded in 2017.
CEO of IEB, Anne Oberholzer, says they are satisfied with the results.
"A pass rate of 98,92 % and entry to degree study of 90,65 % of students. So, we are over joyed."
"This year our maths pass rate was 95,76% and the science was 96,2%, so the science and maths marks have been good and the students have done well," says Oberholzer.
She also added that those pupils who didn't pass or get the results they wanted, should not feel discouraged because they have another opportunity.
" We must remember that matric is a step in one's life , it's not the beginning and the end of the world. If you didn't make it or get the results you want there is always next year to go back, there is enough programmes and ways of getting into studying to achieve the qualification that you need to carry on and do what you want to do."
The results also showed an increase in IEB schools across the country.
Gauteng has the highest number of private schools.
