IEC axes official for leaking ANC, MK Party lists

The Independent Electoral Commission has fired the official behind the ANC and uMkhonto we Sizwe candidate lists leak.

On Friday, the two lists started circulating on social media hours after the parties submitted them.
The IEC says its preliminary investigation shows that the documents were generated from a workstation in its headquarters before they were deleted.
IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo says the official made submissions on why she should not be fired, and based on this, she was axed.
Speaking at a briefing on Monday evening, Mamabolo said an inquiry was launched immediately.
“The investigation has narrowed the source of the disclosure to a workstation that has been used to generate and store those reports.
“Later, the said reports were deleted from the workstation, and that workstation was secured and imaged in the presence of the official whose credentials were used to generate those reports."
The ANC says it's satisfied with the explanation provided by the IEC that the leak was an isolated incident.
The MK Party says its legal team will lodge a formal complaint.
