IEC confirms MK Party registration before Electoral Court
Updated | By Byline: Bulletin / Jacaranda FM
The Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed that the registration of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party is currently under review by the Electoral Court.

The ANC is challenging the registration, seeking to set it aside and declare it unlawful.
The governing party is also involved in a trademark dispute with the MK Party over logo similarities.
The MK Party hit the headlines when former president Jacob Zuma announced his support for the political newcomers.
Zuma’s decision to throw his weight behind the MK Party has since led to his suspension from the ANC.
The IEC’s deputy chairperson, Janet Love, says the commission can only proceed based on existing documentation and legislation.
“The issue of the name of the MK Party and the identification is not an issue the commission is cited in. It’s a matter that is in the High Court, and it is not something, again, that we can control. It is something that is before that court.”
