Voting stations across the country will open their doors on Saturday and Sunday to give South Africans another chance to ensure they're able to leave their mark at the ballot box later this year.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said earlier in the week that it was all systems go ahead of the final voter registration drive.

Voting stations will open on Saturday and Sunday between 8am and 5pm.

First-time voters will be allowed to register, while existing voters can update and check their addresses and registration details.

The IEC says it's still concerned with the number of young voters on the roll.

Officials are urging young South Africans to ensure they can participate in the country's democracy.

Citizens with a valid ID document and over the age of 16 can register - but only people 18-years and older can take part in elections.

Those wanting to register this weekend must take their bar-coded ID book, smart ID card or temporary ID certificate with them to their local polling station.
