IEC in talks with Eskom amid threat of load shedding
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was in talks with Eskom on Tuesday in an attempt to insulate vote capturing sites against possible load shedding.
“The commission has noted the announcement by Eskom that the national electricity grid is currently constrained and there may be a need to shed load sometime in the course of the day,” the IEC’s CEO Sy Mamabolo said on Tuesday.
“Discussions are underway to insulate capturing sites in order minimise the impact on the results collation process.
"The National Results Operations Centre does have generators which will be used in the event load shedding affects the Pretoria West area.”

On Tuesday Eskom announced that it may implement load shedding at short notice.
This is after the power utility suffered total breakdowns amounting to 15 852MW.
Planned maintenance is at 4 036MW capacity.
The possibility of load shedding comes a week after Eskom implemented rolling blacks outs across the country for close to a week.
