Improved weather conditions expected in Gauteng

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says it expects improved weather conditions across Gauteng from Monday.

This comes after the province braved heavy rains and strong winds throughout the weekend.
The Free State also braved some bad weather.
Forecaster Bransby Bulo says while the conditions might be better, there are still some chances of thunderstorms.
“There’s still a good chance of showers, especially in the morning. We’ve been warned of 60% chance but later on in the afternoon chances are dropping to 30% for thunderstorms.”
Bulo says Mpumalanga will also see better weather.
“We’re also expecting conditions to improve, temperatures are going up to 27 degrees celcius for most places like Emalahleni, Mbombela and Skhukhuza.
“Chances of rain are also decreasing,” Bulo adds.
Emergency services have appealed with residents and motorists to avoid flooded areas and take caution in low-lying areas.

Heavy and persistent rain has been falling over Gauteng since Friday. "The heavy rainfall has led to many major routes being flooded, inaccessible and unsafe to drive through," says spokesperson Sello Maremane. "The rain has also led to the destruction of properties and vehicles, notably in Sharpeville, in the Sedibeng district where a roof of a filling station collapsed."
