Improvement in Durban's beach water quality
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The eThekwini municipality says there has been an improvement in water quality at beaches in the city.
The municipality released the results of its latest analysis of the city's beach water on Thursday.
A week ago, six beaches were declared unsafe for bathing and closed, after higher-than-normal E. coli levels were picked up during joint readings in partnership with non-profit Adopt-A-River.
Now, the municipality has described the water quality at Point, Ushaka, Battery, Country Club and the North and South beaches as excellent and acceptable.
It says it will continue to monitor and test levels of E. coli throughout the festive season.
Officials say the three rivers with "poor" water quality are non-bathing and have no impact on recreational use.
