Industria Park substation blaze leaves City Power R3m out of pocket
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The fire that erupted at the Industria Park substation on Saturday has left City Power with a whopping R3 million bill.
The blaze saw customers and businesses in Riverlea, Bosmont, Maraisburg, Industria, Croesus and surrounds plunged into darkness for days.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the fire was caused by equipment damaged through the constant load shedding.

“Our investigation into the cause of the fire revealed that one of the panels ignited during restoration and that is when we had the fire. This was during load shedding, we tried to switch off. This load shedding is bad for us and we are really losing a lot of equipment because of load shedding. This has cost City Power R3 million to do the repairs and for labour.”
Power to all homes and businesses has since been restored.
