Influx of travellers expected in Limpopo over the weekend
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Limpopo is expecting an influx of travellers this weekend as many head to the province for religious gatherings.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety said law enforcement officers had been deployed on various major routes to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
These deployments are focused on key routes, including the N1, N11, R101, R81, R71, R579, R37, R36, R40, R528, R574, R516, R521, D4040, D19, D4, R524, and R523.
The department’s Tidimalo Chuene said there would be zero tolerance for reckless and irresponsible driving.
"Motorists are urged to prioritise their passengers' safety by ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and that they wear seatbelts.
"This is the foundation of a safe journey, as a roadworthy vehicle minimises the likelihood of mechanical failure, and seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of injury or fatality in the event of an accident.
"Furthermore, motorists should strive to minimise distractions while driving, avoiding the use of mobile phones, eating, or engaging in conversations that may take their attention away from the road."
