INFOGRAPHIC: Fuel price increase to hurt the poor
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Fuel price increases will be felt
mostly by the poor, who depend on public transport, says the Automobile
Association (AA).
The AA's Layton Beard says the hike, which was mostly due to an increase in the fuel levy, is way above inflation.
"People need to understand that 40 percent of the price at the pumps goes to tax," says Beard.
Beard says the hike means prices for good and services are also going to increase.
"Because these increases have to be recovered somehow."
Beard stresses that it is important for the public to understand what they are paying for when buying petrol.
