Infrastructure damage sees partial closure of Mokopane hospital
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The Department of Health in Limpopo says parts of the Mokopane Regional Hospital had to be closed due to storm damage.
It says the recent heavy thunderstorms in the area have damaged the hospital's electricity supply infrastructure.
The department’s spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says the hospital made use of a generator for the past 36 hours, but it has now also broken down.
"Due to the fact that the country is now on stage 4 load shedding, the department is unable to reassign generators from other facilities to assist in the meantime, since they also need the generators for load shedding. As a result, ICU patients at Mokopane Regional Hospital have been evacuated to Petersburg and Mankweng Hospitals while other patients have been taken to Voortrekker Hospital.
"The department advises community members who want to visit the hospital's casualty or OPD to go to Voortrekker or George Masebe hospitals.”
