Initiation Bill hearings move to Limpopo
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs is expected to conduct public hearings into the Customary Initiation Bill in Limpopo, on Monday.

The hearing will be held at the Moses Mabota in Fetakgomo.
Committee Chairperson, Richard Mdakane says the primary purpose of the bill is to regulate customary initiation processes.
He adds the Parliamentary process also aims to establish a national initiation oversight committee and provincial committees.
"To clarify responsibility and rules of various stakeholders in the initiation practices," says Mdakane.
Botched circumcisions and assaults have led to serious injuries amongst thousands of young men.
Mdakane says the initiation custom has been overtaken by criminals who seek to make money from the initiates.
"Rather than doing it for the purposes that it was meant for."
