Inquest docket opened into Joemat-Petterson death - police

The police have opened an inquest docket into the death of former minister Tina Joemat- Pettersson.

Joemat-Petterson died in her home in Cape Town earlier this month at the age of 59.
She had served as MEC for Education from 1994 and also headed various cabinet portfolios.
At the time of her passing, Joemat-Pettersson was chair of the National Assembly Portfolio Committee on Police, having served as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Minister of Energy previously.
In a short statement on Tuesday, national police spokeperson Athlenda Mathe said they are now waiting for the autopsy report.
"An inquest docket has been registered and under investigation. autopsy report has been finalised, we are awaiting a final report from Department of Health on the cause of death."
Prior to Joemat-Pettersson's death, suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane claimed she was one of three ANC MPs trying to extort money in order to get the investigation into her inquiry scrapped.
She was also said to have assisted law enforcement in the investigation into the failed multi-million-rand Vrede Dairy farm project in the Free State, which happened while she was the minister of agriculture.
