The University of Johannesburg is investigating a case of arson after the Sanlam Auditorium on the Kingsway Campus went up in flames in the early hours of Monday morning.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Mpho Letlape addressed the media and said damage in the region of a hundred million rand is estimated.
"We are talking about a reprehensible act by a miniscule of minorities."
The auditorium was set alight around 2.00am Monday morning, with allegations that the EFF Student Command was behind the act.
Apart from the auditorium, a 24-hour study centre as well as e-labs were also destroyed.

"These arsonists will be found and they will be jailed. We will do everything in our power, and in cooperation with authorities, to track them down and to prosecute them and to send them to prison for as long as we can," Letlape said.
