Former crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli was a no-show at court again on Friday, despite a warrant of arrest being issued for him, leaving the Hawks' Investigative Directorate "dumbfounded."

Mdluli was supposed to be in court on charges of gross abuse of the police intelligence slush fund and is already in jail, serving a sentence in a separate matter.

The High Court in Pretoria had already asked the Department of Correctional Services (DoCS) to bring him to court and issued a warrant to this effect

On Friday, the Investigative Directorate' Sindiswe Twala said Mdluli has a history of finding excuses for not appearing in court

"This time around though, "It's unclear what the reasoning is - is he ill? Is there something bigger that is stopping him from coming to court? We are still also dumbfounded," she said.

Twala said they would not be entering into discussions with the DoCS on the matter.

"Immediately after today's proceedings our lead prosecutor, and well as the investigating officer, has assured us they are going to touch base with correctional services to find out why is this person not being brought to court.

Mdluli is now set to appear in court on 18 June.

The DoCS's Singabakho Nxumalo said he would follow-up on the inquiry sent to him about this matter by JAcarandFM News and revert with comment.
