IPID broadens probe into Phahlane

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has broadened its investigation into Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.

IPID is staying mum on the allegations that they want to establish how Phahlane could afford six cars over the past three years.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Sally De Beer says Phahlane is weighing his legal options.

"Allegations in the story unlawfully leaked to the media are factually incorrect and would seem to be an attempt to defame and humiliate the Acting National Commissioner just as it was widely and inaccurately reported that the Acting National Commissioner had received a sound system as a corrupt gift. The fact was that he had paid for that sound system himself," says De Beer.

IPID investigators conducted a raid at Phahlane's home last week.

De Beer says Phahlane provided the IPID investigators with the proof of payment for the sound system to the total value of R80 075.00.
