Ipid: NPA’s case against Dramat, Sibiya was malicious
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says
the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) continued with the case against former Hawks head Anwa Dramat and his counterpart in Gauteng, Shadrack Sibiya, "for malicious purposes."
The case against Dramat and Sibiya was provisionally withdrawn in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday and allowed third accused Lesley Maluleke to make representations as to why the case against him should be dropped.
They faced charges including defeating the ends of justice and contravention of the Immigration Act over the alleged unlawful extradition of suspects to Zimbabwe in 2010.

Ipid's Moses Dlamini says the police watchdog had already made a recommendation in 2015 to not charge Dramat and Sibiya due to lack of evidence.
"Ipid made recommendation that "Cowboy" Maluleka only, however, the NPA ignored the ipids recomendations and brought these charges against Dramat and Sibiya.”
Dlamini says the NPA may have been pushing a political agenda when pursuing the cases.
Meanwhile, Maluleke has been given a month to make representations and is due back November 12.
