Ipid probing ‘accidental’ shooting death of trainee cop in Limpopo
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a student police officer during a training session in Limpopo.
The police watchdog’s Lizzy Shuping says the student was shot and killed at the Thabazimbi training academy on Sunday.
"It is alleged that the new recruits were undergoing tactical and combat training when the student officer was accidentally killed."
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says an internal investigation has also been launched.
"Psychologists, social workers and chaplains from the Employee Health and Wellness component are currently providing psychosocial support to the family of the deceased and all affected."
