The teenager with special needs was shot on Wednesday night and died at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.

The community allege Julies was shot by police members.

It caused anger, with residents taking to the streets on Thursday in their demand for action against police.

It led to violent clashes between residents and law enforcement.

IPID spokesperson Ndileka Cola says investigators were in the area on Thursday, but struggled to access the scene due to the volatile situation.

"When they ultimately managed to access it, it was almost impossible to conduct interviews as the community was violent.

However, IPID officials managed to visit the family of the deceased person and the family liaison has been done," says Cola.

She says further investigations include more interviews with police, eyewitnesses, ballistics and probing the postmortem report.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Premier David Makhura has condemned the killing and called on the community to wait for the IPID report.

“I am very disturbed about the events that led to the passing of an innocent boy. I would like to send my sincere condolences to the Julies family on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government,” said Makhura.

The community took to the streets to protest against the death of a 16-year boy, allegedly at the hands of police. The teen was allegedly shot and killed by police on Wednesday night but the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. Police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says public order police have been deployed to the area.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has demanded that the police officer who shot and killed the child be suspended with immediate effect.

"The police officer must be immediately put to jail with no bail, and he must be criminally prosecuted. As the EFF, we will make sure that the deceased find justice and we will not rest until his killers are in jail," reads an EFF statement.
