IRR: ANC voter support grows, DA and EFF decrease
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The Institute of Race Relations
(IRR) released its latest snappoll looking into party political support on
Monday.

The first full IRR survey on the electoral landscape in the country was conducted in September of this year.
The poll revealed the African National Congress (ANC) voter support has risen from 52% in September to 56% in December.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has dropped by five percentage, from 22% to 18% in December.
The Economic Freedom Fighters' (EFF) voter support according to the poll has declined from 13% to 11%.
IRR's Head of Politics and Governance, Gareth van Onselen, says election campaigning does have an influence on voter preference.
In May of 2019 South African are expected to vote in the national elections.
"What typically happens, those parties with bigger amounts of resources and more money that are able to run huge campaigns are able to attract more voters to them," says Van Onselen.
Van Onselen believes parties like the ANC and the DA will squeeze smaller parties in the next coming five months ahead of the elections and gain voters.
"But for parties like the DA and EFF, they are coming off a low base and they might be playing catch up to their 2014 results, particularly the DA."
The IRR plans to conduct a full political survey every quarter and the next survey will be undertaken in February 2019, ahead of the 2019 elections.
The poll was conducted between 26 November 2018 and 4 December 2018.
