Jacob Zuma corruption trial back in court on Monday
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Former president Jacob Zuma’s corruption trial will be back in the High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Monday.
The Jacob Zuma Foundation earlier confirmed that the former president will not attend proceedings as it is expected to be procedural in nature.
During the previous appearance, Judge Piet Koen had adjourned the matter, pending an outcome of a “reconsideration” application to the Supreme Court of Appeal president Mandisa Maya.
Zuma wants Advocate Billy Downer removed from the case, a request that has already been denied by the High Court and the SCA.
Zuma had also filed an application to the Constitutional Court to appeal the dismissal of a special plea.
Judge Koen set down the date of 15 August aside as the holding date for the start of the long-awaited arms deal corruption trial.
The foundation’s spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi says Zuma is not required to be in court on Monday.
“Zuma, by direction of the court, is not expected to appear on Monday. In fact, he won’t be attending to be clear. That is the decision.”

Just to remind you.
The 1st August 2022 date was agreed to as an administrative date to evaluate and confirm if the 15th August 2022 would be feasible as a date of trial.
