SA Rugby has officially named Jacques Nienaber as the new Springbok coach.
The announcement, which has been expected since December, was made in Tshwane on Friday afternoon.
“Firstly, apologies for the late announcement. I know we promised that we would do it before the end of December. So the coaching staff are, Russie Erasmus director of Rugby, Jacque Neinaber head coach,” said SA Rugby President Mark Alexander.

Nienaber said he is ready for the task ahead, despite criticism that he has never been head coach.
“Obviously I am not stupid, I understand that it’s a risk for me, it might be the risk for the organisation. We have discussed between each other what we are going to do to manage that.”
Nienaber’s first test series in charge will be against Scotland for the inbound tour in July.
