Eight people were arrested in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg, after several shops were looted as tensions spiked between locals and foreign nationals in the city.
The suspects were arrested on charges of public violence and the possession of stolen property.
This comes after an abandoned building in Jeppestown caught fire and three people died in the blaze early on Sunday morning.
