Khaya Magadla was playing with friends in Dlamini Park, Soweto, on Sunday afternoon when he slipped and fell down the manhole.

Joburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the team has widened the search to include Eldorado Park.

“We started in the area where the boy fell, at Dlamini 1, in that manhole where he initially fell on Sunday. We had our technicians underground to check on the line itself to whether they might be able to find something. They managed to clear that area, it is clear, that we are sure that he is not there.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) before we called off our search, we managed to cover all the manholes in the area of kliptown, Klipspruit west, and also along the N12 up until we came here to Eldorado Park.

“We are hoping that we should be able to locate him here,” says Mulaudzi.

“We moved to Eldorado Park area on the main reticulation centre where we are looking at our Joburg Water colleagues assisting us to clear one of the pipes so that we can be able to check on it. That will be our last stage to see whether on this line we cannot be able to find him.”
