This is announcement that was made by the Gauteng MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture & Recreation Lebogang Maile together with Festival Organisers Joclyn Cooper and Mathew Morgan.

The AfroPunk Music Festival, which took place for the first time on the continent in December, drew close to 20 000 people from across the country over two days.

"We had almost 3000 visitors from outside the country of South Africa. We are very happy to welcome them," said Cooper.

Maile also described the festival as a huge success.

"The event was incident-free and we are very happy that we can call them our partners now officially they are interested in working with us for the next five years."

The MEC says the provincial government will be injecting money into the festival, but was not willing to say exactly how much.

"We will be announcing in due course about how much we will be injecting into the festival, because it makes economic sense to do so.

"As we all know in December people go to different countries and the world because it is assumed that nothing is happening in Gauteng."
