Joburg Mayor: We need to give our people houses
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
The newly elected mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba this briefed the media on the city's position regarding the illegal invasion of land in the city.

Mashaba also revealed the city's plans on how they will be dealing with the matter during a press conference in Braamfontein on Friday.
"Land invasions are politically orchestrated by the #ANC to disrupt our new administration and that is unacceptable," Mashaba said.
He added that the delay in the delivery of services as well as development of certain areas are also factors that need to be considered when dealing with land invasions.
"We want to complete a credible housing list that I will sign as soon as possible. There are people who have been on lists since 1996 and it is made worse by lack of transparency and corruption," he said.
Mashaba also committed himself and his administration to providing a credible waiting list for housing in 90 days.
"We won't lie, there is a big backlog that we have to deal with- we call on residents to be patient. We have only been in government for 17 days and we have had to call on JMPD to deal with invasions.
He concluded that a housing list is very crucial and that is should be transparent.
