Joburg motorists warned to ensure vehicles are roadworthy ahead of Easter travel

Johannesburg Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku, alongside the senior leadership of the Public Safety department and the metro police, launched the Easter Road Safety campaign on Friday afternoon.

225 people lost their lives on South African Roads over the Easter period last year - an increase from 161 fatalities recorded in 2022.
Transport minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga, launched the national Easter Road Safety Campaign in Mpumalanga on Wednesday, as traffic volumes are expected to increase in this period.
The local road safety campaign aims to encourage motorists traveling in and out of Johannesburg during this Easter period to practice safety on the roads, as Tshwaku explains:
"We are appealing to you, we know that you are going to be going to places of worship, travelling home and all other areas. So, we urge you as the public safety department to make sure that your vehicles are compliant, and your car is road worthy. It is very important."
