Joburg motorists won't be harassed over e-tolls: Mashaba
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says the harassment of motorists by roads agency SANRAL and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) over unpaid e-toll bills will come to an end.

Mashaba delivered his acceptance speech at the 2nd Ordinary meeting of the City of Johannesburg Council.
The DA is opposed to e-tolls, which it claims to be an economic burden.
Mashaba says gone are the days of the JMPD and SANRAL co-operating to collect unpaid e-tolls from motorists.
The mayor says the laws of economic demand that citizens be able to move freely.
He says this will help curb unemployment and inequality in the city of gold.
"In our city, there will be no cooperation between the JMPD and SANRAL on e-tolls and I have received a commitment from the JMPD that there will be no harassment of our motorists about outstanding e-toll payments. It is time to bring back the rule of law in our city. This is essential to our future success. Respect and proper enforcement of by-laws will be central to this new administration," he said.
