Police have arrested a Johannesburg prosecutor for
corruption and extortion on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old district public prosecutor from the Family Court in Johannesburg allegedly demanded a bribe from the suspect to make the case disappear.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the prosecutor called the victim and told him he is handling his case at the court.
“The caller informed him that if he can give him R10 000, he will cancel his case, give him the docket and ensure that no case will be opened against him,” says Masondo.
Masondo says the victim reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Unit, and the suspect was arrested after he accepted R5000 from the man.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of corruption and extortion.
