The reservoir had been struggling to build capacity, leaving scores of residents in Randburg and surrounding areas without water during the Easter weekend.
Some of the affected areas include Sundowner, Honeydew, Northgate and Northriding.
Spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said technicians and service providers are on site at the reservoir.
"So far, excavations have been completed and the repairs are in progress and on schedule. The estimated completion time is tonight at 24:00.
"However, if technical challenges occur, this will be communicated, the technical team is repairing a GRP pipe on the outlet of the reservoir.
"Johannesburg Water continues to provide alternative water supply through roaming water trucks for the affected residents."
