Johannesburg closes some public pools
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The City of Johannesburg as closed some public pools due to shortages in chemicals used to keep the water suitable for healthy bathing and swimming.

Community Development spokesperson, Siyanda Mnukwa, says Florida Lake and Sydanham, are already closed.
Mnukwa says given the number of bathers and warm temperatures, the water quickly turns green and the city decided - as a precautionary measure - to shut the pools until they have been cleaned.
He added that the pools in Eastbank in Alexandra, Roodepoort, and Davidvsonville are under renovation.
Mnukwa says the reason for the chemical shortage was due to the weather patterns.
"When you have severe heat and severe cold, then lightening and floods affect the intake of chemicals in the water. So even if you had reserves, you quickly run out because you are responding to the weather patterns that require more chemicals," Mnuka explained.
He adds that there was a delayed procurement process with a supplier.
The process is expected to be completed on Thursday.
Mnuka says should the suppliers deliver the chemicals by end of business, the pools are expected to open on the weekend.
