Josina Machel: The abuse has to stop
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Human rights activist and daughter of Graca and Somara Machel, Josina Machel, has called for an end to the abuse of women and children.
She was speaking at the '1000 Women Breakfast' by The Transform Education About Rape and Sexual Abuse (TEARS) Foundation on the eve of the annual 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children campaign.
An emotional Machel shared her own story of abuse.
"I was abused inside a car by my partner. The experience at the hospital was difficult, you stay there for five hours and nothing happens, you scream and ask for help and nobody responds. You decide to take the case to court and documents disappear."

She said society cannot afford to stand idly by.
"It just has to stop, it is enough. Millions and millions of women go through this. What kind of world are we living in? What kind of world are we leaving for our children? And for our girls? We need to do something and it just has to be now, it's enough."
