JRA suspends 2 employees for using ‘normal’ van to fix Norwood potholes

The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has placed two of its employees on precautionary suspension after they were seen using the agency’s normal vehicle to compact and level asphalt onto a newly filled pothole in the Norwood area.

The agency says the van is not authorised to conduct road maintenance.

The pair are in hot water after a video circulated on social media, showing their breech of the agency’s “norms and standards on road maintenance works”.

JRA described their conduct as unacceptable.

“Considering what has transpired, no number of words can fully express how shamed and regretful the JRA is by the actions of officials who should know better and do better at all material times.”

JRA said an investigation into the matter is underway, adding all officials involved would be held accountable.

“In a bid to address the regrettable matter as speedily as possible, an investigation report will be submitted to the Office of the Chief Executive Officer in no later than 48 hours,” JRA said in a statement on Monday.

“The JRA prides itself in carrying out its work in the most professional, correct, and respectable way without compromising the Agency’s reputation and the safety and wellbeing of the community members and road users it is tasked to serve.”
