Judgement expected in case against 'racist' Durban man
The fate of a Durban man who went on a racist rant on social media about the use of fireworks by the Indian and Hindu community will be decided in court today as judgement is set to be handed down.
At his last court appearance, Dawie Kriel pleaded guilty to charges of Crimen Injuria after referring to Hindus as idol worshippers and devil disciples.
In the Facebook post which went viral, Kriel went on to say that Hindus should go back to India.
Despite an apology for the comments, some members of the Hindu community, leadership of the ANC and the DA pressed charges against Kriel.
KZN spokesperson for the ANC, Mdumiseni Ntuli says they're calling for swift justice in the case.
"There must be a law enacted in our country that is going to make a criminal offence punishable by law for somebody to incite any kind of hatred particularly that would lead to racism," he said.
