June Steenkamp 'at peace' with Pistorius parole release
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Reeva Steenkamp’s mother, June has made peace with the release of Oscar Pistorius from prison.

So says family’s legal representative, Tania Koen, who’s been speaking to Newswatch ahead of the murder convict’s release on parole on Friday.
She says the Steenkamps knew that Pistorius would probably be granted parole, after serving most of his sentence.
"June has always understood and accepted that parole is part of our legal system and as such Oscar Pistorius was very likely to be placed on parole prior to serving his full sentence incarcerated and Barry has always said that the law must take its course which it has done."
The former Paralympian was convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at their Pretoria home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
Correctional Services says he’ll be monitored and must adhere to his parole conditions until the expiration of his sentence in 2029.
Koen has welcomed the decision.
"In the case of Oscar Pistorius the parole board convened in November and they considered all the factors placed before them and decided to place him on parole subject to certain conditions which includes; anger management courses and attending gender-based violence programmes.
"We believe that this sends out the proper messages to society and that gender-based violence will not be tolerated."
