Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs shot, killed in hijacking

Gauteng Police have confirmed the killing of Kaizer Chiefs soccer player, Luke Fleurs, in Honeydew on Wednesday night.

The 24-year old Fleurs was shot and killed in a hijacking at a petrol station in the north-west of Johannesburg.
He was in a red VW Golf 8 GTI at the petrol station on 14th Avenue, on the corner Hendrik Potgieter, when he was shot once in the upper body.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says one of the suspects fled the scene in Fleurs' car.
"The 24-year-old was waiting to be attended to when he was was confronted by two armed males who came driving a white BMW 1 Series.
"One suspect drove off with the victim's car followed by his accomplice. The victim was taken to the nearest medical care centre where he was certified dead on arrival. Police have opened a case of murder and car hijacking for investigation, and no arrests have been made yet."
Fleurs began his soccer career in 2013, when he joined the Ubuntu Cape Town Academy.
The football team has also conveyed a messages of condolences to the friends and family of Fleurs.
