Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
27-year-old Sandile Mantsoe briefly appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Friday.
He is accused of murdering and burning the body of Karabo Mokoena, with whom he is said to have been in a relationship.
The matter was postponed to the May 24 for formal bail application. Mantsoe was warned that he faces life in prison, should he be convicted of the brutal murder.
Mokoena was reported missing on the 28th of April in Diepkloof Soweto.
Police discovered the body of a burnt woman on the 29th of April in Lyndhurst and further investigations led to the arrest of Mantsoe.
A court room packed with friends family and members of different political parties heard that Mantsoe will be facing charges of premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Mantsoe has no previous convictions, but the state has indicated that it would oppose bail due to the heinous nature of the crime.
