Karabo Mokoena’s killer still behind bars, says DCS
The Department of Correctional Services on Monday confirmed that Sandile Mantsoe remains in custody at the Standerton Correctional Centre in Mpumalanga.
The department released a statement following reports that Mantsoe had escaped from prison.
Convicted killer Mantsoe was sentenced to an effective 32 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena, in 2018.
In 2022, Mantsoe also appeared in the Evander Regional Court in Mpumalanga on charges of fraud.
“He is at Standerton Correctional Centre with other further charged offenders to make a total of 8 in the cell. He is at the Centre, and he never went out today,” said the department.
Mantsoe is expected to appear in court again on October 18 to answer to the fraud charges against him.
