Khoi community wants PE airport named after Dawid Stuurman
Updated | By Neo Motloung
A delegation from the Khoisan community in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro
presented their proposal for the new name for the Port Elizabeth
International Airport to the Airports Company South Africa on Wednesday.
They want the airport to be named after Khoi chief and political activist, Dawid Stuurman, who fought against Dutch and British colonial rule in the Eastern Cape.
Prophet Crawford Fraser addressed to the media before the delegation departed to the Port Elizabeth Airport.
He says Stuurman was lured under false pretenses to Australia by the colonial government, who saw him as a threat.
"The lied to him, and they told him his wife and children are waiting for him there."

Fraser says the reason Stuurman was taken to Australia was that colonialist did not want him on the soil of his people.
Efforts are continuing to have Stuurman’s mortal remains repatriated to South Africa.
