Knife-wielding student shot by US police

A 14-year-old high school student was shot by police on Wednesday in the US state of Nevada after he refused to drop a knife he was using to threaten others, according to media reports.

The boy is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was shot by a Washoe County School District police officer, The Reno Gazette-Journal said on Wednesday.
The report stated that, according to authorities, the incident began as an altercation between two students then escalated after one of the students wielded a knife and threatened to attack others.
A school police officer told the student to drop the knife, but the student refused to cooperate, the report added.

The officer shot the boy and then provided medical attention, the report noted.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Reno Police Department stated on its Twitter account that it responded to reports of shots fired at Hug High School.
