A man was fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police in KwaMashu, north of Durban, on Sunday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

In the early hours of this morning [Sunday], KwaMashu police exchanged gunfire with a man who was shooting at another male along Luthuli Road in F section,” spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker said.
“The gunman was fatally wounded while his intended victim was [wounded]. Police came off unscathed following the shoot-out while saving the life of the victim,” he said.
Police were conducting crime prevention operations at F section when they saw the gunman, 32, chasing another man, 27, and shooting at him.
They attempted to stop the gunman but he turned on police officers and fired several shots in their direction. Police returned fire and during the exchange the man was wounded. Both the victim and the gunman were taken to hospital for medical attention.
However, the gunman died. Police seized his firearm with 11 rounds of ammunition. A case of attempted murder was opened at the KwaMashu police station for investigation, Naicker said.
