KwaZulu-Natal accounts for nearly 50% of new Covid-19 deaths

The number of Covid-19 related deaths continues to increase significantly, with KwaZulu-Natal accounting for nearly 50% of fatalities confirmed in the latest report.

Statistics released by National Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday, show that 680 more people succumbed to Covid-19 related illnesses.
KwaZulu-Natal accounts for 306 of those fatalities.
Gauteng has recorded 141 Covid-19 deaths, followed by the Western Cape at 95 and the Eastern Cape at 86.
A further 28 more people have succumbed to Covid-19 in the Free State, 18 in Mpumalanga, 4 in Limpopo and 2 in the Northern Cape.

This brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 related deaths to date to 41 797.
A total of 6 042 new cases were reported over the 24 hours up to Tuesday evening.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 1 423 578.
The country’s recovery rate has increased to 88%.
