The league’s Thanduxolo Sabelo made the comment at the Durban University of Technology this week - questioning a section that stated the ANC should produce a black patriotic bourgeoisie.

He says BEE has created many wealthy people, but asked how patriotic they have been.

"Patrice Motsepe - who is a shareholder in mines - if he is a patriotic bourgeoisie , now that we are speaking about nationalisation - will he be willing to surrender the money to the hands of the people? Never. In fact, he would want us to pay for it," he said.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa's patriotism was also questioned.

"In his capacity as chair of Shanduka which owns minerals, and a lot of forests here in KZN. Will he be patriotic to say: 'The people want back their land. I am therefore handing back all of your land,'" he said.
