KZN Basic Education won't allow smoke break 'chaos'
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The KwaZulu-Natal Basic Education says it will not allow the
'chaos' that unfolded at Roseville Secondary School in Umzinto, where pupils
protested for a smoke break between 8 am - 9 am.

The pupils also demanded an allocated smoke area on the school grounds.
KwaZulu-Natal Basic Education spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi, says such chaos shall not be allowed at schools, pointing out that the department of education teaches about living a healthy lifestyle.
"So, we cannot then be a department that allows smoking breaks and the smoking zones," says Mahlambi.
He adds the department is set to have a meeting with the pupils' parents at the school.
"So that, in front of their parents, they can stand up and say they are demanding a smoking zone," adds Mahlambi.
He has confirmed that pupils who were involved in the disruption of classes during the protest, will also face disciplinary action.
